Irish Time’s Emma Somers conquering her fear….

“..as soon as I leave the ground, my fear disappears…I’d have leapt straight back in again..” I was contacted by Roisin Ingle of the Irish Times, about working with one of their journalists for a piece they were writing on overcoming holiday phobias.
 
Emma had a phobia (strong fearful reaction) of diving into water.
 
We only had time for a single session, so we covered the essentials and the practical approach to resolving the fear.
 
Thanks to the effectiveness of the process, my experience and Emma’s bright and willing participation, all went to plan and Emma had her triumphant moment.

I have made so much progress …
I have being meaning to send this email for a long time…

Anyhow I would just like to thank you for all your help over the last few months. I have made so much progress which is down to the excellent work and patience that you demonstrated to me! I have a completely different mindset in my thinking in which that I couldn’t have every imagined!

Feeling confidence and resourceful…
Hi Ailish. You’ve been on my mind recently. Just thought I’d sent a quick message to say hello and let you know I’m doing well. My head is in a good place and so much of my anxiety has been broken down completely. It hasn’t been put to the test on a serious level but I do feel Id have the skills to cope significantly better if it did. I appreciate so much all you did for me. And I could not feel this confident without the work you put in to our sessions.

Greater confidence and relaxation…
Hi Ailish,

It has taken me some time to write this email I have been extremely busy with work and also my social life, which thanks to you I am not afraid to say yes to invites such as dates and parties.

I believe since I completed the confidence course with yourself I am in a much happier and relax frame of mind.

In my professional career I am also more confident and I believe in my own ability much more than I had before. I have more confidence in speaking up and challenging people who may be in a higher position (in a respectful manner of course), this is due to the fact that I stopped see them as people who are above me and just as people themselves, whom i can talk to and also learn from.

I still implement the practices that we covered in our sessions and I refer back to the book when I need to which I think helps and I am so grateful to have it at my disposal.

Thank you again for all your help and I hope I remain calm, confident and happy and always remember to keep my own perspective in all sutations and not let them after me.

Presentation goes well…
Just wanted to let you know I had my presentation this morning and it went well. I felt nervous on and off especially in the few days coming up to it… As soon as I started today though, the nervousness died down and …I felt fine overall. I got good feedback on it afterwards which was good…

Overall I am very happy with how I did it is a big step forward for me.
Thank you very much for your help and hopefully I will continue to progress in this manner.

Blood phobia resolved…
thanks so much for the training etc in getting over my fears surrounding blood, needles etc. I was able to be by my wife’s side throughout her labour, it turned out to be quite a long one and ended in an emergency c-section, which I was able to attend. Thanks to the techniques etc I learned with you it was a manageable process for me….

 

Money well spent…

How are things ailish,

Just wanted to let you know how far we came since 20th of September.

On the locus of control test I’ve gone from 17 out of 30 to 7 out of 30

on the self esteem test from 30% to 70%

And on the social anxiety test 50% to 30%

I think it’s fair to say we made huge progress in breaking down the shite beliefs I had about myself. I just wanted to thank you again for all the help you’ve given me, it’s easily the best money I’ve ever spent.

Stress Free Eye Surgery

Hello there Ailish,

Sorry it has taken me the week to email you. I returned to work on Monday and it has all been a bit mental since!

Last Wednesday went well! I got through it. My mum came in with me to the surgery and she couldn’t believe how calm and strong I was!! She tapped my hand when I lay and got lasered!

It was all over in a matter of minutes! The pain was pretty bad afterwards but to be honest I did not mind that much as I was so relieved I had finally done it!

I now put in my own eye drops 4 times a day!!

The other eye is tomorrow so hopefully all will go as well as last week.

Thank you for all your help and patience over the last few weeks Ailish, it really made such a difference. And now I will have sight for life! Amazing.

Hi Ailish,

I rang you earlier today, just wanted to say thank you for everything you helped me with.

In our last session, I was frustrated/annoyed. I don’t believe I will ever feel like this again.

With the four lines you gave me from the first session we had a few weeks ago I started feeling curious (while I’m gradually finding it easier to get aroused), also instead being nervous about having sex I am looking forward to it. At 41 years old that’s a bit embarrassing…

Making Continual Progress…

I meant to send you a little note last week just to say thank you for all your help over the past few months. I am getting there and the little trigger sentences have really helped me be aware of my thinking. I think the next stage will be open to possibilities in the “boy” department.

Relaxed Exams

Exams finished last week. No major upsets thankfully. I kept it together quite well (tummy in bits though, but that’s normal!). I had one v tricky exam but did what I could with it so fingers crossed.

Thanks for all your help. The dream technique did really work and I was much calmer after my visit to you. I adopted the attitude, sure they’re only exams, not the end of the world if I fail. It really worked!

Easy weight management…
I still amaze myself at how in control I am… My clothes are much looser and I feel so much better about myself and my ability to reach my target. I don’t think I have ever been so focused, I don’t even think that’s the right word as I just don’t think about food anymore unless I am hungry or planning a meal. It no longer dominates my thoughts which is brilliant! I am still in awe of myself and giving lots of pats on the back!!

Chronic Fatigue Resolved…
I had chronic fatigue, was very unhappy, thought very negatively and had a phobia of food. While I was on holiday in Thailand I tried pizza, prawns and the Indian food we were given on the plane!
